MCAC Baseball Athletes of the Week: Week of May 5-11
The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has released its baseball weekly awards for the week of May 5-11.
Riverland Community College left-handed pitcher Jack Sorenson has been named this week's MCAC South Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Sorenson was instrumental in helping the Blue Devils advance in the postseason by throwing a complete 9-inning game in which he gave up only three hits with no runs. He struck out seven and walked four in the 1-0 win over SCTCC.
Century College designated hitter Seth Tierney earned this week's MCAC South Division Baseball Position Player of the Week award. Tierney hit .429, going three for seven from the plate. He doubled and hit a home run, driving in seven runs and scoring three during the DIII Region 13 Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Tierney helped the Wood Ducks advance to the North Plains District Tournament.
St. Cloud Technical and Community College right-handed pitcher Evan Acheson earned this week's MCAC Central Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor. In his one starting appearance for the week, Acheson threw five innings of shutout ball, scattering only three hits while striking out three. He walked one batter in the win, and helped advance the Cyclones to the North Plains District Tournament.
Alexandria Technical and Community College third baseman Jonah DeJong earned this week's MCAC Central Division Baseball Position Player of the Week award. DeJong went 7 for 13 at the plate, hitting .538 with three doubles and a home run at the Region 13 Tournament. He also drove in four runs, scored five, and walked once to lead the Legends into the North Plains District Tournament.
Northland Community and Technical College right-handed pitcher Kyle Robinson was named this week's MCAC North Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week honoree. Robinson appeared in one game, pitching seven innings in a winning effort. He gave up four runs on ten hits and struck out three, without giving up a walk against Alexandria Technical and Community College.
Minnesota North College - Itasca designated hitter Jaxon Kenning hit .555, going five for nine from the plate at the Region 13 Tournament. Kenning had a double and a triple, and he scored four runs and drove in three. He walked twice and stole four bases during the tournament to be named the week's MCAC North Division Baseball Position Player of the Week.
